Knappogue [NA-POGUE] takes its name from the castle which inspired it – the castle on “The kissing hill”. Built in 1467, the stronghold had fallen into ruin by 1966 when Mark Edwin Andrews and his wife Lavonne (both architects) restored it and filled it with some of Ireland’s best casks of whiskey. Some of these became the oldest, rarest commercially available whiskeys, the others helped define Irish single malt whiskey itself.
The result of a marriage of 14 YO Single Malts aged in two types of wood: American white oak ex-Bourbon barrels and Spanish red oak Oloroso Sherry casks. 46% / 92 proof.
TASTING NOTES
NOSE: Notes of apple and apricot.
PALATE: Rich in flavor with fruity, nutty and vanilla notes.
FINISH: Medium-long going from fruity notes to a dry but pleasant barley finish.
