Knappogue Castle 21Y

Knappogue [NA-POGUE] takes its name from the castle which inspired it – the castle on “The kissing hill”. Built in 1467, the stronghold had fallen into ruin by 1966 when Mark Edwin Andrews and his wife Lavonne (both architects) restored it and filled it with some of Ireland’s best casks of whiskey. Some of these became the oldest, rarest commercially available whiskeys, the others helped define Irish single malt whiskey itself.
Knappogue Castle 21Y : A marriage of two Single Malts distilled in copper pot stills, matured in ex-Bourbon casks and bottled at 46% / 92 proof.

TASTING NOTES

NOSE: Orchard fruits, with rich pastry notes, subtle clove and baked apple spices. Toasted oak adds character to the background aromas.

PALATE: Soft and mellow with great depth and complexity from long maturation, with malty richness throughout.

FINISH: Lingering, with delicate barley cereal notes.
