Duncan Taylor Port Ellen 1983 40Y - 52.4%

Duncan Taylor Scotch Whisky has delved into its impressive and extensive archives to launch this 40-year-old single malt, matured in first-fill sherry casks, a true time capsule of Port Ellen releases from the early 1980s. At 104.8 proof (52.4% abv), the liquid matured in a European oak ex-sherry cask, initially stored on the Isle of Islay, before being transferred to Duncan Taylor's headquarters in Aberdeenshire in 2010 to finish maturing. Each handcrafted decanter is sequentially numbered and comes with a signed certificate of authenticity. The last time Duncan Taylor Scotch Whisky Ltd marketed a Port Ellen was in 2013.

TASTING NOTES:

NOSE:
A classic sherried Islay. Full of caramel and leather mixed with fruity notes of blackberries and strawberries dipped in cream.

PALATE:
Dark caramel and other fruits, this time more cooked than fresh. Thick and chewy texture with roasted pecans at the forefront.

FINISH:
Long and seemingly endless. The bitter dark chocolate notes from the sherry cask linger until the end, along with spicy roasted oak notes.
