Built in 1467, the stronghold had fallen into ruin by 1966 when Mark Edwin Andrews and his wife Lavonne (both architects) restored it and filled it with some of Ireland’s best casks of whiskey. Some of these became the oldest, rarest commercially available whiskeys, the others helped define Irish single malt whiskey itself.
