This is our second batch of Blended Whisky from this long closed New Zealand distillery. It’s an 18 Year Old, bottled at 50.5% abv.
This release has been matured in ex-red wine casks which bring intense fruit aromas of blackberry and other dark fruits are combining with dark chocolate, tobacco and wood.
Willowbank was the most southerly distillery in the world, producing highly regarded Milford and Lammerlaw Single Malt Whisky. The distillery produced both malt and grain producing such popular whiskies as Wilsons and 45 South. The distillery closed in 1997, and stocks must be surely getting scarcer these days.
|TASTING NOTES|
• Nose
Deliciously fruity, with blackberries and blackcurrant. There is leather and dark chocolate too and earthy woodiness rancio too.
• Palate
Chocolate and cherry in a Black Forest Gateau. The tannins come through towards the finish, leaving the mouth very dry.
