This 8 Year Old single malt has been finished in an ex-Chouchen cask, and bottled at natural cask strength. Historically Distillerie Warenghem produced a range of fruit & plant liqueurs, and Chouchen, which has long been a popular drink in Brittany. Chouchen is native to Brittany. It’s a form of mead, and is made from the fermentation of honey in water. Traditionally, buckwheat honey is used, and the fermentation process begins with the addition of freshly pressed apple juice.
Tasting notes
Nose
Rich caramelised orchard fruits, baking spices; nutmeg, black pepper and a hint of cinnamon, with a charred wood, and a honey sweetness.
Mouth
Big and bold! A honeyed sweetness, balanced by rich oak spices. Baked apples charred oak, oiled leather, with hints of ginger.
Finish
Long spicy finish.

From a single cask, distilled in 2016, just 231 bottles have been filled at natural cask strength The Nantou Distillery is a Government owned business (Taiwan Tobacco & Liquor Corporation). While the Nantou distillery is slightly older than the more well known Kavalan distillery, whisky production didn’t start until 2008. Production techniques are modelled after those utilised in Scotland in the 80s. Malted barley is imported from Scotland and ex-sherry and ex-bourbon casks are used for the maturation.

Kanlaon, where the finest sugarcane is milled to produce sweet, rich molasses. Don Papa is a tribute to Papa Isio, the real and charismatic leader from the island of Negros, Philippines. His legend was instrumental to the independence of the island during the Revolution of the 1890s. The figure of Don Papa is inspired by Papa Isio, though he is not the same person. Rather, Don Papa is the embodiment of the spirit of Sugarlandia.
Sauternes is made from grapes which have undergone ‘noble rot’, causing their moisture to evaporate, hence concentrating the sugars.
